MEADOW LANDS, PA, Nov. 17, 2008 Abraxas, loving the duel for the lead in front of him, used his customary late kick to capture the $25,000 Preferred Handicap pace Monday at The Meadows.
When Hennessy Hanover grabbed the early lead and wouldnt release challenger KF St Patrick, the two battled through a first half of 55.2, a demanding pace over the sloppy track. Abraxas and Rodney Bolon picked up first-over cover from Tarver Hanover, then passed that rival in the stretch.
Abraxas scored in 1:53.1, 1-3/4 lengths better than Tarver Hanover, with War Boots third.
Jeff Fife trains and Ed Moritz owns Abraxas, a 5-year-old gelded son of Dragon Again-Dandy Dana who has been first or second for six consecutive starts.
